UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs. Choi in Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri- Sunday, January 14, 2018
UFC Fight Night this weekend will be headlined by #9 ranked Featherweight Jeremy Stephens and # 13 ranked Featherweight Dooho Choi. The veteran Stephens comes into this fight with 40 professional mma bouts on his resume with a record of 26-14, as he takes on the exciting 26-year-old up and comer Choi (14-2), who’s last 3 fights earned him the performance of the night bonus. Choi’s last fight, a Unanimous Decision loss to Cub Swanson, was fireworks from start to finish, and earned the title of Fight of the Year 2016 from World MMA Awards and ESPN.
The co-main event will feature a battle between #11 ranked Middleweight Uriah Hall and #12 ranked Middleweight Vitor Belfort. Hall, who was the two-time Ring of Combat Middleweight Champion before coming to the UFC, is coming off a performance of the night win over Krzysztof Jotko. Belfort comes into this bout with a very impressive list of accomplishments, including being the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, the UFC 12 Heavyweight Tournament Winner, 5 time Knockout of the Night winner, 2 time Performance of the Night winner, and having the most knockouts in UFC history with a total of 12 knockouts.
Other notable bouts of the night are the second fight on the Fox Sports 1 Prelims, which will be the UFC debut of Team Serra/Longo fighter Matt “SteamRolla” Frevola as he takes on Marco Polo Reyes; the Fight Pass Prelim main event, which will be a bout between former Ring of Combat Champion Jessica “Evil” Eye and Kalindra Faria; and the second fight on the Fight Pass Prelims, which will be former Ring of Combat and HFC Champion Mike Santiago as he faces Mads Burnell.
RISE Invitational 3 in The Space in Westbury, NY- Saturday, January 13
This Saturday will see the very anticipated 3rd installation of the RISE Invitational grappling promotion. RISE provides an excellent platform for grapplers from the New York and surrounding areas to put their talents on display. RISE has already seen some big names from the martial arts world in the first two events, including former UFC and ROC fighter and 3rd Degree black belt (under Matt Serra) Pete “Drago” Sell; former UFC, WEC, Bellator, and Strikeforce fighter Joe “Diesel” Riggs; current #9 ranked UFC Bantamweight Aljamain Sterling; former Bellator, ROC, and CFFC fighter Sergio “The Savage” Da Silva; highly touted prospect and Serra BJJ black belt Jason Rau; former UFC fighter Chris Cope; and former UFC, CFFC, and ROC fighter and Ultimate Fighter 19 Tournament Winner Eddie “Truck” Gordon.
RISE 3 has an exciting 12 bout undercard, which will have many high-level competitors, and will be headlined by former UFC fighter Chris Cope and current ROC fighter and Madama black belt Mike Elshamy. This card will also feature 2 tournaments and several SuperFights.
The first ever RISE Woman’s Champion will be crowned after a 4-woman 125lb EBI Rules Tournament. There will also be an 8-man EBI Rules Tournament to determine who will take the vacant 145lb RISE Championship. Current UFC Fighter and former ROC Champion Merab Dvalishvili will take on current ROC fighter Nekruz Mirkhojaev in a 6 minute SuperFight. Current RISE 170lbs Champion Jason Rau will fight Jon Blank in a 10 minute SuperFight with 1 round of EBI rules if necessary. The main event of the evening will be a showdown between current UFC fighter and former ROC Champion Chris Wade, and 2 division ROC Champion and Dana White Contender Series winner Sidney Outlaw.
