Glory 33: Diego Jagessar
Diego “Dutch” Jagessar is ready to put on a show. Fresh off a win from Battle of the Millennium III in June, “Dutch” is prepared to fight at Glory 33–one of the world’s most famous kickboxing promotions. Fighting out of Striking 101 with a record of 4-2, he says, “I’m bringing the fireworks!”
To fight for Glory is no small matter for the Suriname-born fighter. With five years experience, three of them at his home gym in NYC, it appears that Jagessar’s dreams are coming true through his talents in Muay Thai.
“I moved to New York City three years ago. I wanted to change my life, have better opportunities for myself, and when I came here on vacation, I was intoxicated by the fast pace of the city. I knew this is where I had to be because of all the possibilities that come up for people while they are here.”
Diego Jagessar has a background includes Karate, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, and other sports such as soccer and swimming. He came to his gym Striking 101 by a chance encounter at a bar with a future teammate, who encouraged him to come in and take a class.
“Really, it’s the best gym ever. They put me on the right track right away. My Sensei John is incredibly knowledgeable about the fight game. My teammates always support me and helps me to prepare. Luke Todd and Brandon Joza in particular, are building me to be a savage and really just destroy anyone in my path. I learn something new every day but I have found that it is not how much you know, it is how much you can apply what you know.”
Diego says he does not underestimate his opponent, Anthony Lopez. “However, I also don’t underestimate myself either. I’m ambitious and committed, and victory loves preparation and confidence. I’ve never been more ready for a fight in my life.”
