UFC 217 lit up Madison Square Garden this past Saturday with a series of edge-of-your-seat bouts for the record books. Mantra for the night–don’t blink.

The “Mecca of Fighting” saw the return of Welterweight legend Georges “Rush” St. Pierre in a middleweight battle with Michael Bisping, with GSP putting “The Count” to sleep in the former Welterweight’s first finish since UFC 94, to become to new Middleweight champion. St. Pierre looked confident and moved smoothly with the jump up in weight class, starting out strong in the first round with a series of his famous jabs and takedown attempts. Bisping came back with momentum in the second round, landing strong strikes and bringing pressure, but it all came to a close in the third round, where a massive hook and series of elbows by GSP gave way for St. Pierre to snag a rear naked choke on Bisping and take the win in a comeback of the ages.

The co-headliner saw the explosion of a heated rivalry between former Team Alpha Male teammates, Cody Garbrant and TJ Dillashaw, culminating in what is sure to be the first in a series of battles between the two. Both fighters had great exchanges in the first round, ending in strong knockdown by Garbrandt towards the end of the frame. Dillashaw came back in the second round, landing a huge head kick which lined up a series of punches that dropped Garbrandt, ushering in Dillashaw to his second reign as Bantamweight champion.

 But wait—there’s more!

Underdog, Rose Namajunas shook the Garden with a first-round finish on the previously undefeated Strawweight champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The “Thug” tagged Jedrzejczyk with a left hook followed by a knee, rocking the former champ to the ground.

The prelims were no sleepers either, starting off with ”Dana White: Looking for a Fight” alums, Randy Brown and Mickey Gall in their highly anticipated Welterweight matchup that saw Brown serve Gall with his first pro loss in a unanimous decision.
